Ready for the Global Conference?

Would you like a piece of chicken with herbs and a glass of Chardonnay wine? How about a bit of crème caramel or tarte au chocolat?
허브와 함께한 치킨 한 조각과 Chardonnay 와인 한 잔 어떠세요? 아니면 크림 카라멜 혹은 초코렛 타르트 한 조각 어떠세요?

All this is on the menu at the UN’s global conference about the environment in Paris (COP21). And there is also a bakery there offering hot baguettes and croissants.
이 모든 것은 파리에서 개최되는 환경에 대한 UN 국제회담의 메뉴입니다. 그리고 따뜻한 바게뜨와 크로와상이 제공되는 빵 역시 포함되어 있습니다.

So it looks like the French are doing their best to organize good meals for the delegates this year. The food at these meetings in the past has not been very tasty. That’s why some delegates secretly took food from outside with them into the venue. This year, there are many cafés and restaurants around the venue of the conference, in the north of Paris.
그래서 이건 프랑스가 마치 올해의 대표자들을 위해 좋은 음식을 준비하려 최선을 다하는 것처럼 보입니다. 과거 이 회담의 음식들은 정말 맛있진 않았습니다. 이런 이유로 몇몇의 대표자들이 비밀리에 외부로부터 음식을 준비해 회담장소로 가지고 들어왔었습니다. 올해 파리의 북부인 회담 장소 주변엔 많은 카페와 레스토랑들이 있습니다.

You can also find many relaxation rooms with sofas and soft lights there. This is a change for older delegates. Some talks can last for over 24 hours and some of them have had to sleep on the floor. If delegates would like to take a break from their talks about environmental issues, they can spend time in the new meditation rooms.

Environmentalists have said there are not enough vegetarian meals for such a conference. But the organizers have thought about the environment and will charge delegates 1 euro for a plastic cup which they will receive back when they return the cup. This makes sure people use less plastic glasses and so there is less waste.
환경주의자들은 이와 같은 회담을 위한 채식이 충분치 않다고 줄 곧 이야기해 왔습니다. 그러나 기획편성자들은 환경에 대해 생각해왔기에 대표자들에게 플라스틱컵 대여에 1유로를 부과했으며 그들이 컵을 반납할 때 돌려주었습니다. 이 방법으로 사람들은 더 적은 플라스틱 용기를 사용했으며 그리하여 쓰레기도 줄어들었습니다. 

They also don’t have to take a polluting taxi back to their hotel after the conference. They can simply book an electric car or get a pass for Paris trains and buses, for free.
This conference is better organized than the last conference in Copenhagen in 2009, where delegates had to stand in long lines and wait outside for hours to get in the conference building because the security staff had too much to do.

This time, each delegate has a time when they must arrive. The Paris terror attacks made people think it could be chaotic, but the lines to get through security have been quick.
The question is: will the better organization of the conference really help the delegates to find a global climate agreement? It would be the first since 1997.
이번엔, 각 대표자에게 도착해야할 시간이 주어졌습니다. 파리를 향했던 테러공격은 사람들을 혼돈 속에 몰아넣었으나, 보안절차를 통한 라인은 빠르게 진행되었습니다. 그렇다면 질문은, 더 잘 짜여진 회담이 실제로 대표자들이 세계 기후 합의에 도움이 될까요? 1997년 이래 처음일 겁니다.
